Antrim and Newtownabbey accommodation providers, as well as frontline staff from Tourist Information Centres across Northern Ireland, recently had a chance to sample the delights of Antrim Castle Gardens and the superb leisure facilities at Antrim Forum.

An open invitation was issued to all local tourism trade partners to participate in this showcasing opportunity.

Karen Steele, Development Manager (Visitor Servicing) for Antrim Borough Council, said: “Over 30 took part from a wide range of Tourist Information Centres including Belfast, Limavady and the Giants Causeway as well as many local accommodation providers.”

Participants were welcomed to Antrim Castle Gardens by the Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann. The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the Gardens where delegates were shown the Large Parterre, Her Ladyship’s Pleasure Garden, Oriel Gallery and the Garden Heritage Exhibition.

Karen added: “Everyone there said it was great to find out more about what Antrim has to offer, particularly Antrim Forum and the beautiful Antrim Castle Gardens. It’s always so much easier to tell someone about an attraction if you have seen it for yourself.

“The Borough is sure to benefit from this visit and we look forward to seeing an increase in visitors from across the Northern Ireland and from further afield.”

The visit was funded by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and was joint organised with Newtownabbey Borough Council. Delegates also visited attractions in the Newtownabbey area including Sentry Hill and Ballyrobert Cottage Garden.
