Clown around this summer

Have your say

From the end of June, a series of free, fun circus skills activities for adults and children alike will commence across parks in Antrim, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey, until the end of August.

The CAN PEACE III Partnership, which is funded by the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, has organised the ‘Circus Sessions’, which will span a two-month period across the summer from June 28 until August 30.

The events will take place on various Saturdays and Wednesdays in Antrim’s Dunlop Park (from 2.30pm), Newtownabbey’s Sandyknowes Park (from 6pm) and Carrick’s Sunnylands Park (from 11am); and on Wednesdays only in Woodburn Park, Carrickfergus (from 11am).

Mark Glover, Chair of the CAN PEACE III Partnership, said: “We’ve basically arranged for the circus to come to town and the message is - it needs you!

“The series of activities are planned to encourage everyone to make use of the fantastic green spaces and facilities we have right on our doorstep, while also keeping participants fit and active in the process.

“The free activities are suitable for kids and adults of all ages and offer the chance to learn everything from juggling and hat tricks to mastering stilt walking and riding a unicycle under the expert guidance of a tutor team from Streetwise Community Circus.

“There will also be additional games tailored to suit all ages, and a mass participation ‘Park Fit’ session will round off the series of events.”

This summer’s Circus Sessions are free, are open to all ages and commence from Saturday, June 28.
