There was visible shock across the count centre at Valley Leisure Centre after long-standing councillor and current Deputy Mayor of Antrim, Brian Graham, failed to be elected to the new Antrim and Newtownabbey super council.

Voting in the Antrim District Electoral Area was extremely close with no one garnering enough votes after stages one and two of the count to meet the quota of 849 votes.

After Alliance’s Sian O’Neill, and NI21’s George Young were eliminated after stage 1, by stage two, despite their transfer the quota was still not met.

Mr Graham, who polled 540 votes, was the next lowest candiadate and as a result he was excluded with his votes being transferred.
