ARCHES office in Randalstown is currently a hive of activity as they prepare for their annual week-long Community Festival which this year takes place from Friday, June 20 to Saturday, June 28.
Many of the favourite and popular Festival events will take place again this year, as all sections of the community come together to enjoy a much-anticipated, fun-filled week of events, leading up to the holiday season.
As always there are new events as well, many of which focus on fundraising for local worthy charities. The new Dog Show, raising funds for Diabetes UK, will run alongside the Gymkhana on Saturday, June 21 at Dunmore Park. Popular events such as the Family Fun Cycle on Monday, June 23; the Duck Race & Street Games on Wednesday, June 25 as well as our Grand Finale Parade on Saturday, June 28 will go ahead regardless of the weather.
George Graham, Chairman of ARCHES, said: “Festival is for everybody and we are always delighted with the turnout from the community and hope that this year will be no exception. But at the same time as we are enjoying ourselves it is even more gratifying to know that the less fortunate are also benefitting from events that fundraise for charities. Many charities are experiencing difficulties and are grateful for all contributions. If money can be raised to benefit them through enjoyable activities so much the better, everyone wins!”
While Brian McGookin, Treasurer of ARCHES, said: “Over the years we have been able to rely on Antrim Borough Council, through the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure, to provide funding for our Festival and this year is no exception. We are also grateful for funding from the Enkalon Foundation who have faithfully supported us for many years.”
“In addition, a lot of events receive individual sponsorship, mainly from local businesses, and we appreciate their support very much both for this and for advertising in our Festival booklet. Organising a festival is an unbelievably expensive undertaking and without all this input Festival as we know it just would not happen.”
