The start of March marked the beginning of Integrated Education Week in Northern Ireland.

The theme this year was ‘Building Bridges’ and to celebrate this special week the children from Maine Integrated Primary School walked together from their school to the viaduct in Randalstown.

Once there, the children released six doves supplied by to mark the occasion.

Julian Costelloe, Maine IPS principal, said: “Integrated Education Week is a special week in the school calendar for us and we wanted to do something memorable with the children.

“As the dove is the internationally recognised symbol of peace we felt it would be appropriate and enjoyable for the children to release them from the bridge here in Randalstown.”

The school recently ran a competition to come up with a new motto for the school.

The winning entry was ‘Building Bridges, Learning Together’ which coincidentally ties in well with the Integrated Education Week theme.
