Antrim Borough Council has been shortlisted for a prestigious NI Impact Award from Business in the Community.

Shortlisted for the Business and Biodiversity Award category sponsored by AES, the Council has demonstrated significant commitment and contribution to protecting and enhancing biodiversity in Northern Ireland through an initiative or through its activities.

Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann, said: “This short listing recognises the commitment Antrim Borough has to biodiversity.

“We have incorporated biodiversity into our corporate and business plans and we work in partnership to facilitate and implement the Antrim Borough Biodiversity Action (ABBA) Plan within the wider community. The judges were impressed by the number of innovative biodiversity projects with which the Council are involved.”

“The economy is starting to pick up which is a positive sign, yet even through all of the difficulties in recent years companies here have continued to do the right thing and be a force for good in our society. I am continually impressed by the determination of organisations to go beyond the norm to use their business for the benefit of their people, the planet and the places where they operate.

“The NI Impact Award celebrate companies and individuals who realise just how important their actions are to our society and I’d encourage all businesses to put themselves forward for recognition and to inspire other companies by sharing their stories.”

Ken McKervey, Commercial Manager with Electric Ireland, added: “We are delighted to continue our relationship with Business in the Community It’s extremely important to inspire and encourage businesses to keep on doing the right thing. Even small actions can reap huge rewards.

“These awards are the perfect vehicle from which businesses can learn from one another, grow and develop.”
