Last week’s Foundation of Light Coaching Programme was hailed a huge success as Carniny continued with their Sunderland AFC partnership.

The Ballymena-based club were delighted to see the Foundation of Light coaching staff travel to the Ballymena Borough once again to deliver a four-day programme.

The sessions provided football coaching for boys and girls aged 5-16 throughout and Carniny opened their doors to all local youth footballers enabling them to take part in this opportunity.

This is the second such visit by the Sunderland staff from their Foundation of light to Ballymena and Carniny /YFC have for the past two years taken teams to the north east of England and intend doing again this year especially with the added incentive of having recent Sunderland signing Paddy McNair who played in the Foyle Cup for Carniny several years ago in their 1995 squad, now with the Mackems.

The Sunderland coaches handed out a number of awards at the end of the week with each participant receiving a certificate for the week.

As a surprise award at the end of the week two lucky players, Nathanael Hanna and Adam Wharry were picked out as ‘Players of the Week’ and both will travel to the North East on a ‘Sunderland Matchday Experience’ visit when they will receive an access all areas tour, an Academy visit and take in a Premiership game.
